Understanding the power of now.
We often are so focused on what God will do in the future that we get to a place where we aren’t content with where we are in the present. God is not going to lead you somewhere you don’t belong. So, while you are praying and believing for Him to take you to another season in your life or another place, don’t forget He is the one who brought you here. Be present. It’s hard when you feel like you don’t have everything God promised you but consider that God has something He wants to do right here, right now.
Maybe, you are praying for the overflow that He said would come from your tithing, but still, your card declines, and you have to transfer money from your savings for your needs. When you’re too focused on the future, you might be tempted to stop tithing so you can have enough money. What if God just wants to know that you will be obedient and serve Him when it seems you have nothing?
Maybe you are holding back in your calling because you are waiting for God to process you into this “holier than thou” prophet, but God is saying your words have the power of death and life right now.
Don’t fall into idolizing what will be.
It’s especially difficult when God has given you a vision or a glimpse of your purpose. Sometimes we are so ready to hit the ground running, “Okay, God give me…” “Do for me….” I believe for some of us, the root of this is pride or maybe insecurity. We say, “I want people to know, to see, to be amazed at me,” but being present now and appreciating your reality requires trust and humility. That is the purpose of now.
When God is ready to bless you in whatever area in your life, He will do just that. It’s in His word as a promise to us. We serve a good God who promised us joy and abundance, and prosperity. He also wants you to attain the things you envision for the future; I mean, He’s the one who gave you the vision. But there is something about being present in the moment that is going to set you up to be able to handle not only what God wants to do, but what He will do.
Philippians 4:12-13
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:19
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
